WORN: The Freedom of Minimalist Travel

The time of over packing has come and gone. If you're still in your early twenties, it's time. Shake off the illusion of quantity in favor of quality, sanity, and heaven forbid, serenity. Everyone else, it's not cute anymore, get it together.

In summary, you are not Jackson Pollock. Few people can make method out of the madness.

If I was still working that way I would be sitting on the floor with a bottle of wine in hand (no glass), mascara dripping, and a pair of underwear on my head. If you don't feel great in EVERYTHING you've brought, and can't combine with ease, we've got work to do.

I am still evolving, and honing in on these skills, but I want those hours of my life back. So here's to all of us, turning over a new leaf, or at least a step in the right direction (aka maybe don't pack that fourth pair of jeans).

Here are some crazy beautiful pictures by Haley Harned. I'd like to think they demonstrate how happy you can look with a couple of key pieces. You still have room for creativity -- don't worry -- and less room for error.

WORN: Around-The-House Looks

Meet Hana. She's our shop girl, model, and all-around cool ladyfriend who we so lovingly refer to as "The Intern" since that's how her time at Stash began. Hana's got kick-ass style and the ability to mix and match like no other, so it should come as no surprise that we begged her to share some of her style secrets with the rest of us. In this series, Worn, Hana will explore many facets of personal style.

Disclosure: Versatility is one of the things I value most in my closet apart from straight-up good pieces. The ability to mix and match with ease gives me a lot of much needed room for creativity. While this might make it seem like my closet is positively bursting, I do think I manage to keep things qualitative over quantitive.

Some of my few and favorite looks can be attributed to the vintage pieces I have accumulated through time spent at Stash Collective. Needless to say, these staples are now over fifty percent of my wardrobe.

I came upon vintage when I was at the peak of some serious mainstream retail frustration and aggression. I typically don't revisit the halls of the mall because the shopping experience is pretty disappointing, exhausting, and over-stimulating. So when I am working, or browsing the vintage at my favorite collective (yes, that's right), and I overhear the devastating phrase,  "I love this but I don't know how to wear it," I die a little inside.

I thought maybe I could demonstrate how to incorporate vintage in your day-to-day wear, whether that means it is interspersed with your modern pieces or an entirely vintage ensemble. Whatever the case, I hope this inspires you find the vintage look that is right for you.

Going Back To Cali: Vintage Travels

Anela Bence Selkowitz -- one of our owners, as well as a real kick-ass photographer, graphic designer, and mother -- was born and raised outside of Los Angeles, and for the past few weeks, she's been back in California visiting family and friends and soaking up the sunshine. A winter hiatus at its finest!

But the vintage itch is very real, so of course she's done some shopping for Stash while she's on the other side of the country.

Here's a sneak peek at just a few of the West Coast finds she'll be bringing back East.

Feelin' The Love

We get it. Valentine's Day is super cheesy and commercialized and lame, and you're all too cool for it. Even Leslie Knope's Galentine's Day is going mainstream!

But let's be honest: we can all actually use a reminder to slow down and appreciate those around us.

And we can do so without being total sell-outs.

We're wishing you more than just a day full of chocolates and flowers and teddy bears holding hearts embroidered with "BE MINE" (but knock yourself out if that's what you're into). Use this Valentine's Day as a chance to remember the things that fill your soul and make you happy.

Because we're no good to anyone else until we're good to ourselves.

Carve out some time for those you love -- whether it's your partner, your friends, your family, or your pets -- but don't forget to do the very same for yourself. We're busy dishing out care and compassion each and every day, but it's also so dang vital to conserve some of that for the (wo)man in the mirror.

Whether you're looking to pamper yourself or your loved ones (or hopefully both), we've got a handful of ideas that are sure to please -- as well as a Valentine's Day-inspired playlist to get you groovin'!

Our Personal Stash: Anela's Picks

Sure, the three of us spend a lot of our time digging up treasures for all of you to enjoy, but we also have some favorite vintage pieces of our own -- they're hung in our closets, decorating our homes, piling up on our bookshelves and mixed in amongst our record collections. And every now and then, we can't help but show them off.

Here are some of Anela's current vintage obsessions:

There are a handful of vintage pieces in my bedroom that I absolutely love but just never get around to wearing. I could blame baby-wrangling, but I'm probably just getting old and lazy. Sometimes I think you people should feel lucky that I don't hang out at Stash in my sweats...

These three items are still in my wearable wardrobe.

Stash Tunes: Chill Vibes

Tucked in a humble old milk crate in our North Street store, you'll find a small yet mighty selection of both new and used records. Our musical tastes are quite varied, ranging from the sweet twinklings of Sonny & Cher to the raging wildness of Nu Sensae, a pummeling Canadian punk outfit. We handpick this collection in the hopes of offering our music-loving customers go-to classics as well as new artists that will soon find their way into heavy rotation.

With that in mind, we offer you a playlist of jams that will have you chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool in no time. These laid-back, sexy tunes provide perfect background music for a productive work session, a casual hang-out with friends or even for your luxurious, calming weekly bubble bath (#selfcaresunday, right?).

And even better -- each of these songs was pulled from albums we have available at Stash!

Stories Behind the Stash: Red Plaid Hunting Jacket

One of our favorite things about vintage shopping is the idea that each item we hand-pick has its own history. Each item has lived a previous life -- or two, or three -- meaning these articles of clothing are more than just pieces to be shoved in already-full closets. They're artifacts of days gone by -- of leisure and work, good times and bad. Their stories intrigue us, and sometimes, those stories just really ought to be shared.

We found this gem of a jacket -- a Sears Roebuck & Co. wool Field Master -- hanging forgotten in a 100-year-old woman's attic. The jacket was heavy, adding plenty of pressure to the old wire hanger that had accompanied it for decades. We were initially drawn to this piece's classic red and black plaid, seeing as how it's one of those timeless patterns that just never seems to go out of style. We also loved the 1949 hunting tag, which is attached to the coat with the largest safety pin we've ever seen. And yet these obvious perks aside, it wasn't until we got it back to the store and took the piece to be dry cleaned that we started uncovering all its little secrets.
